The 48th Pennsylvania Infantry  In the heart of the American Civil War, a band of iron-willed men from Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, known as the 48th Pennsylvania Infantry, rise from the coal mines, railroads and canals to the battlefields. Led by the determined General James Nagle and Colonel Henry Pleasants these soldiers are thrust into some of the most pivotal and brutal battles of the war. This is their story.

 

The 151st Pennsylvania Infantry In the midst of the American Civil War, a 9-month regiment made up of mostly Berks County men known as the 151st Pennsylvania Infantry, or “The Schoolteachers’ Regiment,” emerges from the quiet towns and schools of Pennsylvania. This story chronicles their extraordinary journey from farmers, laborers and educators to soldiers, culminating in their heroic stand at the Battle of Gettysburg.

 

The Hard Luck 167th  The only “All Berks Regiment” in the Civil war, this unit of drafted men would go off to be attacked and maligned through their entire service. Causing at one point a war of words between New York City and Reading Pennsylvania. This is their story.

 

The letters of William Iaeger: Born in Hamburg Pennsylvania, William Iaeger went from laborer to inventor, to American Console of the Dominican Republic during the Civil War. From there he went off to be the biggest land owner in West Virginia eventually having a town named after him, Learn the story of William through his letters during his time in the Dominican Republic.

 

The Schuylkill Navigation in the Civil War:  From Boatmen to Locktenders and even the barges themselves. Hear the stories of the men and boats that did their service to our country in the civil war.
